Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 02/05/2001

Number: 1

I normally see some non- migrating American Robins during the winter in Vermont. This year, however, they are here in large numbers. In a recent birding trip on the Vermont side of Lake Champlain I saw Robins in such large numbers that I was unable to count them. This sighting was in a mixed growth swamp. Many reports of Robins have been submitted by other birders as well. They are often sighted in areas containing large amounts of Stag Horn Sumac and are usually in the company of Cedar Waxwings. I have noted that they appear to be darker than the migratory Robins. I assume this is a result of their winter diet?
