I helped to establish a program in Tallahassee last spring to enhance the northward migration of monarchs. We planted about 150 milkweeds, plus an acre or so of wildflowers. The first monarch we spotted in the area was on March 24th (yr 2000). From the eggs laid by this female and several others we raised about 100 monarchs and sent them on their way; i.e., after tagging them with Monarch Watch tags. On Feb 3rd of this year we saw seven chrysilids, from one of which a monarch emerged on Feb 8th. Yes, I know, this is far too early for monarchs to be in the Tallahassee area, but it did happen!
