Robin (OTHER Observations)

Date: 02/09/2001

Number: 1

Overnight Thur. we had a fierce ice storm. Fri. EVERYTHING was encased in a thick coat of ice. Late in the afternoon after a little bit of sunshine, the area south of our garage which measures about 16ft by 30" held 15 robins desperately throwing leaves and trying to get to the ground next to the garage. This was probably the only place around that the soil could be reached. I have a screen bottomed feeder in the area which had already attracted the bluejays and juncos. There is also a 4 ft brass fountain which the goldfinches love. At one time I counted 5 robins sitting evenly spaced around the bottom of the fountain. I might add that the temperature at the time was 14degrees F.
