At about 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, my husband and I spotted two adult male bald eagles just north of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge on the western side of the Hudson River. It was sunny and cold, and we had just about given up hope after stopping at two other places along the river from Cornwall up to Danskammer with no luck. However, we saw a little road that went right down to the river and investigated! As we were deciding to turn around to go back home, there was the first one! He was swooping in circles, quite close to the shore. Before we could even believe it, along came another! For about 5 minutes they "danced" together and then went off in opposite directions, one toward the north and the other toward the N-B Bridge. The water was open, relatively calm and freely flowing. It looked to us as if the tide was going up the river. Most of the ice seemed to be over on the eastern side of the river, but there were a few small ice floes coming along our side. What an awesome 5
