The time was approx. 2p.m. The robin, the largest I've ever seem as perched on a rock on the ground in the back yard. (It was definately a male - vivid orange belly & very black back feathers, head & tail. It seemed to be resting. I might also add there were 3 or 4 blue jays flying in & out of the yard. I also thought that perhaps the robin was being evasive of them.
I have not seen him since then, perhaps he was just passing through.
It seems, that here in my yard in Bayside (in Queens county NY & part of NYC) the same robin pair return each year to next & raise their family. I call the female, who is more friendly and tamer than her mate, "My Robin". No sign of them yet.
P.S. I am NOT a teacher, just like to check out "my birds".
