Maple Syrup (FIRST Sap Run)

Date: 02/20/2001

Number: 1

Greeting Journey North- the maple sap snuck up and dripped on us!!! Actually, the snow has been so deep that we were not expecting to see sap flow before next week, but Tuesday, February 20, 2001, the sap ran for the first time in beautiful Madoc. This year, we will be tapping several maple trees in our school yard just to the south of our portable. We will put in our taps on Thursday, February 22 in the morning. WE will be boiling down our sap on our back patio!!!! We hope to get enough for a pancake breakfast. Today the sun is shining and very warm...but the temperature outside is very cold and there is a bitterly cold north wind blowing. We are not getting any sap this afternoon.
Spring has arrived in Madoc and Marmora!!!
