Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 02/24/2001

Number: 1

The flocks have been increasing daily up to 400-500+ flying over. They are beginning to roost in our hemlock trees and the scotch pines. I hope to get some photos of robins. It's supposed to be 58 degrees tomorrow and then turn cold and snow by Monday. March is almost here and that explains the weather. Things right now are at a stand still. Snowdrops haven't opened yet. Maybe if the weather warms up tomorrow they will pop open. We did have a grackle and a male redwing blackbird at the feeders. The sapsucker was back after disappearing for a few weeks. The birds are singing and starting to pair off and beginning to defend their territory. Small flocks of Canada geese are heading north. Our yard number of different species for this year is up to 44. A screech owl and the redwing blackbird were the newest species. Skunk cabbage is up about 3 inches. There was a flock of 30 turkeys in the lower yard and they were scratching up the leaves and eating nuts and sugar maples s
