Robin (First SEEN)

Date: 02/26/2001

Number: 1

First Robin- seen flying and landing on a very tall pine. At
first I did not see any orange on the belly, because it was
cloudy. But the bird seemed the right size and sang the robin
call. I was amazed that here it is still February, and the
robins are back!
Also, I have an onramp to a highway I get on near my home that
always has kestrels sitting on it, and lo and behold one kestrel
was sitting on the wire this morning! I didn't think they came
back until the end of March, since they love to eat insects,
but will prey on small rodents. Its exciting to see both of
these signs of spring in one day! Winter in New Hampshire has
been very snowy and cold all winter...not the place for these
migrants to return to yet with the ice storm we had last night!
