- I do not believe these are migrants as there have been flocks of robins throughout the valley all winter. I did here some robins singing a little during warm weather last week (That was in my home town of Poultney Vermont). This was just warm up, probably not territorial singing.
The robins I saw Saturday were mostly near Charlotte VT. The robins I have seen during the winter have been in wooded areas with berries or staghorn sumac along the edges. On Saturday, they were out in fields with starlings as the sun & warmth of last week had cleared some patches of ground down to the dirt or grass. I suspect our predicted 1-2 ft of snow will send them back to the woods!
I generally consider the appearance of redwings to be a much more significant springtime event here, since overwintering robins are normal. It does seem as though more robins than usual have stayed this past winter.
