Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 02/01/2001

Number: 1

We were able to watch eight of the Monarch Butterflies emerge last weekend.... March 1 through 3. There was great excitment among the students of the school. The display had been placed in the hall so many of the students were able to make observations. We released the 8 butterflies after we saw that their wings were ready. We have observed 3 or more in the area. Our milkweed is ready to host another generation. We will keep you informed.
(To reflect the fact that larvae on 3/1 indicate that monarchs were breeding during winter in Miami, Journey North edited this to "Adult" sighting and date to 2/1/01 to reflect development time.)
