Subject: Red-winged Blackbirds (Richmond Hill & Newmarket)
Though it may sound trivial to those of you along southern Ontario
lakeshores who've seen them already, it is always exciting to see and
hear the Red-winged Blackbirds making their way back to the cattails in
one's own area. These hardy males are the true harbingers of spring and
I was tickled pink to see two of them in Newmarket yesterday afternoon
at Fairy Lake, then two more in Richmond Hill this afternoon (Dufferin &
Major Mackenzie Drive- south of Newmarket). The wheels of the great migration machine are
starting to turn.
