Maple Syrup (FIRST Sap Run)

Date: 03/11/2001

Number: 1

Greetings from Canada! Today we tapped 105 trees and upon drilling into the trees, a small amount of sap began to flow. However, we did not accumulate much and when we came inside for the evening, our spiles had 6cm icicles hanging from them. The day was partly cloudy and the temperature did not rise much above 1 degree celcius. Our evenings have been cold all week and our daytime temperatures have been around 1 or 2 degrees. We expect that this week will bring a good amount of sap.
