Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/13/2001

Number: 1

Alcoa site across Lavaca Bay: 10:45-11:15 am, we observed 14 coastal monarchs, males and females, the ones we got close to were faded. After leaving we saw four more before noon from there to downtown Port Lavaca, moving NE. We went back at 12 noon and stayed for one hour. In that hour we counted seventy monarchs on several acres of white wildflowers. We estimate we saw thirty-five to fifty different individuals since some doubled back in front of, over, and around us as we watched with binoculars from the edge of the pasture. Again the ones seen up close were faded. Netted one faded and tattered male. http://mar2k1.homestead.com/mar13.html
