I saw and heard two male red-winged blackbirds this afternoon. They were in the very same tree in which I saw my first two red-winged blackbirds of the season last year at about this time. I often wonder why they are right smack-dab in the middle of Toronto's downtown, amidst the traffic and concrete. Last year, they were there for at least a month, singing and displaying near the music building on the University of Toronto campus. Maybe they wanted to take singing lessons...
