Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 03/21/2001

Number: 1

Well- they have finally arrived- I saw my first flock of robins today, on the way home from school at about 4:30 pm. There were at least a dozen robins flying back and forth in a group across the side road that I was walking on while I collected maple sap. This is the very first flock, although there have been reports of individual birds which over-wintered in the cedars in our area. This is rather late for me to be seeing my first flock- usually they arrive the first week of March- I think it may be partly due to the deep snow which remains on the fields and in the forests around our area. We still have 18 inches (45 cm) of snow in the forest!
