Hurray- I have my first red-winged blackbird singing alongside my still frozen pond this morning at 7:00. We only just had our first flock seen this past week and they seem to be dispersing over their breeding territory! Also- this past week I have observed several kestrels sitting on the wires as I drive to and from my home. This is one of our usual signs of spring, as the kestrels move south of our area for the winter. I also saw my very first great blue heron yesterday afternoon- it was flying in a south-west direction near Madoc. The herons do not winter in my neighbourhood because we have no open water.
