Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/26/2001

Number: 1

For the second time this year, was forced by rapidly shrinking leaf mass to evacuate larvae from the Asclepias currasavica plants in Suter Refuge's butterfly garden. Took 25 2nd through 5th instar monarchs and one queen home to feast on as-yet untapped Mexican milkweeds held in reserve there. Had not been looking for eggs, but obviously there has been more than one laying event at the garden in the last two weeks. Very few monarchs seen over that period, and none since 03/25/01.
