Robin (First HEARD singing)

Date: 03/26/2001

Number: 1

I heard a robin actually singing its cheer-up, cheer-up song about a week ago now.

We tend to have Robins year round. The ones that nest
here leave for warmer climates, but have recently returned or are in
the process thereof. A good friend of mine had about 30 in her
yard yesterday busily devouring cut up apples as we had a fair
snow storm Friday night-Saturday, and the ground is covered
again, hiding those precious worms. In the fall we often have a
great invasion from robins from the north, and many stay around
feeding on Mountain Ash, unpicked fruit in orchards, holly berries,
rose hips and crab apples. We often see them travelling with Cedar
and/or Bohemian Waxwings.
