Earthworm (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/02/2001

Number: 1

Yippee!!! The almost world famous grade 3-4 class report that today, at morning recess, we observed our very first earthworm of the year...it was found at the edge of the garden near the front of the school. It was about 7cm long. The garden is free from snow, but there is still snow on the playground and grassy areas of our schoolyard. The weather on the weekend was cool and gray with snow and rain. Today it is overcast and about +4C. Were surprised to find a worm because the ground is still frozen in the morning, but squishy and muddy in the afternoons. You can dig a little bit into the soil of the garden. We didn't think we would see worms before Easter week- we are surprised.
