Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/08/2001

Number: 1

I observed 5 Monarchs searching for Milkweed plants to lay eggs on. I was in an open field with wildflowers in bloom all around. It was 2:00 PM and about 80 degrees with a wind of about 5-8 mph. The sun was shining. I watched one Monarch deposit an egg on a milkweed plant that was about 3-5 inches tall. I was amazed at the strength of this fragile creature flying against the wind.
