Sunday afternoon my family & I were enjoying an afternoon boat trip on L. Pontchartrain. When we were just west of the Lakefront Airport, I was in the middle of trying to untangle my two year old's Tweety Bird fishing pole when a bird called behind us. I turned around and saw a Common Loon. I had never heard one call before in the wild, only heard tapes. What a neat sound. We also saw another one in the water between Bayou St. John and the Orleans Ave. canal.
