Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/19/2001

Number: 1

I saw two monarchs lay eggs on our tiny plot of milkweed, and the eggs (about 35) hatched about two weeks ago. By Monday, they had stripped the plants of leaves, buds, and flowers, and crawled off. About 60 students have been searching the area for the chrysalis - we found six, and one is already turning black from parasites. Hopefully, we'll be sending several more monarchs north in the near future!
