Hi everyone,
I guess it's time to dust off the old hummingbird feeders and fill 'em up! I returned home from a 3 day trip to North Bay at 6:15 this evening (not a birding trip), just in time to see a green-backed, dark-throated hummingbird circle the yard and check out my red plastic niger feeder. It only stayed 3
seconds, then flew off. The bird returned about 20 seconds later, landed for a sec, then flew off again. I quickly dusted off the old... you know the rest. I put the feeder out, but, to this point in time, the hummer has not returned. The only flowers in bloom in the area are the odd tulip,
daffodil and crocus. This is most certainly a male RUBY THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, but at this time I'll call it a hummingbird(sp.) just to be safe. A quick check of the records for the Rondeau area revealed this to be record early by 8 days. I live on the north shore of Lake Erie in a village called Erie Beach, in
Kent County between Rondeau P.
