Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/24/2001

Number: 1

Today we released 12 Monarchs which were growing in our brand new Butterfly garden. They had eaten all of the garden supplies, so we brought them in to eat on one large milkweed, and to pupate. We released them in the afternoon as a celebration for the grades 3-5 children who would the next day take the Texas Taas test. It was a beautiful sight, and the children were all captivated as one stayed behind to have his first drink on a flower in the garden. I didn't catalog the sexes or sizes, but marked the wings with initials MC. We hope they are traveling, eating, breeding, and laying more eggs as they continue their travel north.
