Bonaparte Lake in the Okanogan Highlands is still mostly in ice. There is a narrow strip of open water in the center of the lake for the loon. A bald eagle was flying back and forth, and the loon gave a tremolo each time it passed overhead.
The sixth graders at Tonasket Middle School think that the loon range map on the Journey North Internet site needs to be modified. They know that loons nest in our area, and they would like to see the summer range brought south to include the northern most part of Washington from the center of the state to the east. They also thought it was weird that the dates covering the last report go through April 27th, and today is only April 25, 2001! They are looking forward to the next posting on May 3.
Thank you for providing such a wonderful program.
