Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/07/2001

Number: 1

I hung up a fuschia plant on Friday, and went away for the weekend, intending to put up the hummingbird feeder today...but the hummers arrived sometime on the weekend. I saw my first ruby-throated hummingbird of 2001 this morning just as I was leaving for school. It was nectaring at the fuschia...the temperature this morning is rather cool - with the full moon today, I was expecting a cold night. The sun is shining, however, and the temperature is supposed to rise later in the day. The weather this past week has been extremely warm, but dry. The feeder is now up and I will watch for more hummers- last year there were several pairs which required individual feeders located around the perimeter of the house to help keep peace! Tomorrow we will put up a hummingbird feeder at my school in Marmora.
