Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/09/2001

Number: 1

Observed first Monarch this afternoon, feeding on American holly blooms...The monarch was too high in the tree to determine sex but had very bright color and form...probably from this year's hatch.
These trees have been covered by hundreds of other
species for the last 10 days, mostly Red Admiral, Painted Lady,
Questionmark, Black and Tiger Swallowtail, etc.

Weather: Mostly sunny, temp about 75, wind light, 5-10 mph from
the south/southwest. Had a couple nice rains over the past week.
Weather has been unseasonably warm the past 3 to 4 weeks.
