Hummingbird, Other Species Sighted

Date: 05/10/2001

Number: 1

Finally!! My long wait has ended! My first male Hummingbird of 2001 has arrived. I went outside to put some of my, soon to be planted, annuals out in the gently falling rain. I looked up and there only 10 feet away was a male Hummingbird on one of my south feeders. It didn't seem to bother him that I was watching. He just kept drinking from the feeder. This year my sighting was one day earlier then 2000. I have had red streamers up since the beginning of April so the Hummingbirds can find me since their flowers are not yet blooming. My feeders have been up since the later part of April. My yard is full of the songs from robins, housefinch, goldfinch, baltimore orioles and chipping sparrows. Now the hummingbirds have come to join the stream of my flying flower. What more could I ask for? I think not much!
