Two robins sighted March 6 pecking at mulch in front of Stewart elementary. This was strange as we had from 1-21/2' drifts of snow covering everything else. The mulch right along the building was warm and not covered by snow--they found a worm!
I took out some worms from one of my vermicompost bins and they returned there daily looking for more! They also like the fruits left on our trees.
We now have at least 8 robins nests around the school yard and the robins have had a field day with all the rain we've been having. Worms came out onto the sidewalk and it was like a salad bar my students decided. The robins seemed to select just the best ones!
