First Monarch of Season

Friday, May 11, 2001

Seen flying northeast ca. 5-6 meters up, then rose, turned northward, and flew over the roof of the Insectary Building (2 stories). Observed at 1:05 p.m. CDT. Temperature 20C (68F),
wind north, 17 mph, sky conditions, mostly sunny, with 10%
cumulus cloud cover. Appeared to be a fresh individual; however,
it was at least 10 meters away when I noted the wing condition.
