Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/15/2001

Number: 1

Today (5/15/01)I went to check on the common milkweed in the wild area in the
back of our property and what a surprise to find 6 eggs spread over 3
plants. The plants are anywhere between 4-6" long with leaves still
unfolded. My incarnata are up but I haven't checked the numerous plants
yet for eggs. I have not seen any monarchs though. Perhaps this female
was just passing through on her way further north?(Reporting here as "adult" monarch, since eggs are evidence that adults have arrived.)
Today (5/16)I observed our first monarch of the season laying eggs on the
swamp milkweed in our yard. She was so busy going about her business, I
could get within inches of her. She looked in good shape and enjoyed air
gliding in the warm sunny weather we had today. What a thrill to see
them back!
