Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/25/2001

Number: 1

We continue to observe male monarchs with plans to stay. Two males that we netted wild in the backyard on May 5 were still around today (twenty-one days later) along with one from May 7 and another from May 9. Photos showing fade of one of the
May 5th males, #431, now wing marked with a "5" are at: http://may2k1.homestead.com/may22.html When netted a second time, we wing mark a monarch so as to observe length of stay without having to net them over and over. A few monarchs are still being seen from here along the mid coast of Texas inland towards San Antonio. If the original generation of overwintering monarchs deposited eggs about March 15 in the area then these could be two genrations later.
