Today I observed the first monarch of the season. A bright female nectaring on common milkweed blooms. She was first sighted around 9:45AM and was still in the garden just before noon.
This was a nice suprise after a spring almost without monarchs.
Temps were in the mid 60's with NW winds 5-10 mph. Sky conditions were mostly sunny with a few cumulus clouds. Temps have been 10-15 degrees below normal the last few days. I will be watching the milkweed for additional sightings.
