All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 05/27/2001

Number: 1

This has been an extraordinary spring for the population of red admiral butterflies, judging from sightings in our butterly garden in Altoona, Iowa, and from the reports of friends in other areas of central Iowa. On Sunday, May 20, I counted approximately 25 red admirals sunning themselves on a walkway in our butterfly garden. Other people also report seeing larger numbers of red admirals than they have seen in previous springs.
