I have been studying the breeding biology of the Monarch for the last two summers. On May 19, 2001 I observed a Monarch at our cottage in Huntsville, Ontario. The milkweed on our property has not started to grow yet, as it is still too early. Last year I did not observe a Monarch until the end of June. Another person sighted one last week in the same vicinity and a friend in Gravenhurst, Ontario, about an hour south of us also saw a couple this week. The one I observed was alighting on dandelions, in the absence of milkweed.
