Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/17/2001

Number: 1

Three of my 7th grade students went outside to hunt for monarch eggs this morning. Our school is a modern, earth-bermed, brick structure. On the top of the berm on the south side of the building, they found 9 (nine) monarch eggs. The milkweed plants upon which they were found averaged 30 to 40 cm tall, and had an average of 10 to 14 leaves. We are ALL delighted to find this evidence of the monarchs return...even though we have not yet spotted any monarch butterflies!
