Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/06/2001

Number: 1

It has been a long wait. My students think they have made sightings over the past two weeks but these are hard to confirm because of the numerous Red Admirals and Painted Ladies this year. (Any idea why their numbers are so high this year? My father-in-law, who has farmed in tha area for over 30 years, doesn't recall so many Admirals and Ladies as this year?)

I saw a Monarch on my lunch hour walk on the 6th and then another on the seventh while a drove through farm country. I local parent, who has a butterfly garden, hasn't spotted one as yet. However, yesterday was the first warm sunny day we've had in a very long time.
