I just read the news on Jim Lovett's message about the smaller number of
migrating monarchs. Surprisingly, I have found more eggs here in Nebraska
at an earlier date than I remember in past springs. For the past 2 weeks I
have checked my favorite site on the north edge of Lincoln in a weedy
roadsite patch of flowers and milkweed. I've found a total of 50 some eggs
in 3 visits, even though our weather has been fairly cool and wet. In the
sandhills at our log cabin near the Niobrara River, (north central
Nebraska), I found 40 some eggs yesterday, and have seen a steady stream of
monarchs on road trips and on our property. Seems like this might be a
promising summer for monarchs.
