Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 06/15/2001

Number: 1

The 9 Monarch eggs, and one larvae that I collected are in different stages of development. The larva became a chrysalis 8 days ago, and will hopefully emerge as a Monarch butterfly in the next day or so. We also have 4 more pupae, two caterpillars in the stage just before becoming pupae, and 3 still on their milkweed. I will release these if and when they become butterflies.

We see Monarch butterflies in the area, perhaps one or two in a days time. Last weekend we traveled from eastern Nebraska to Missouri and saw a number of Monarch butterflies crossing the highway (to their peril in some cases.) However, I would have to say that I have seen more Monarch butterflies, or at least as many, as in past years, in our area.
