north central Nebraska, near the Niobrara River: I had already found eggs on the milkweed on our land, but had not yet seen a monarch. On this day it was sunny and about 75 degrees. A female was flying above the prairie, landing on the scarlet gaura to sip nectar. Since then, I have seen a monarch almost every day, and I continue to find many eggs--one or more on almost every milkweed plant in the patch near the creek.
