Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/06/2001

Number: 1

I saw my first Monarchs today in Toronto, a male and female seen together
along a rail line in the city around 4:00pm. The male was nectaring on
Alfalfa and the female was ovipositing with gusto - so much so that I saw
her perch on leaves of Sumac, Manitoba Maple and Alfalfa with her abdomen
already curled down and touching the leaves, but without laying any eggs.
She did lay several eggs on the upper leaves and developing flowerheads of
one Common Milkweed plant while I watched. Nice to finally see them.
