Driving along our gravel road near our house I noticed a spot where the milkweed leaves seemed to have a lot of chewed areas so I got out of the car and found 4 caterpillars right away. They were sized from about 1 1/2" to about 1". Walking down the road towards home I saw at least 5 butterflies hanging on the undersides of the plants and speculate they were laying more eggs. I've never seen an egg, but found about 5 more catepillars. One was very small, only about 3/8" long but most were between 1" or larger.
The first monarch I saw was June 11th. Is this about the normal time lapse between eggs and caterpillars?
