Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/05/2001

Number: 1

This is a continuation or update of the report I made on 7/7/01 for a female Monarch FIRST sighting on 7/5/01. She arrived in the late afternoon, stayed around but only appeared to be nectaring. Then the next day she started laying eggs and here is the collection data: Friday (7/5/01 = 41 eggs); Saturday (7/6/01 = 21 eggs); Sunday (7/8/01 = 38 eggs); Monday (7/9/01 = 44 eggs) Tuesday (7/10/01 = 9 eggs), Total = 153 eggs. Interestingly, Sunday (7/8/01) was cooler than normal and overcast most of the day but obviously this did not affect her. She has not been sighted again since Tuesday late morning and we suspect she has either moved on or gone to her greater reward. For our first Monarch this season she sure has made a great impression and we applaud her diligent efforts. Now we will do our part and ensure that her offspring will have the best opportunity to flourish and beautify the world. WHAT A WAY TO START A MONARCH SEASON!!!
