Until today have had very little activity at our hummingbird feeders for weeks now. For this period we have had a lone hummer; or at least so few that there was never more than one at the house with two feeders. This morning early, 6:30 a.m., there was a heavy bodied hummer in the dogwood next to the feeder. It would charge and rocket at any other approaching bird. But it's aggressive protection was for naught as others have joined during the day. This looks like the beginning of the southward migration which will end in September if last year was any gauge. This is our second year in this house; we didn't have any at our other home as the habitat was not conducive to attracting them. We will try to enjoy what time is left with our speedy little hummer friends.
