Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 08/18/2001

Number: 1

The butterflies which came after the rain did stay for the night. We have @ 500 butterflies roosting. The neighbors have more. As I stated in the earlier sighting today, the rain came in from the north east instead of the usual north west. At 8:30PM, the butterflies had moved mostly to one tree, and are in very large clusters on the branches. They are from 10 - 30 feet off the ground, on the south side of our tree. It is a box elder. They are on leaves mostly, but two groups are on bare branches.
