We established a butterfly garden at our school last spring and have maintained it throughout the summer. We were very excited to return to school and find a monarch caterpillar on one of our milkweed plants that had been a host plant for in-class monarchs last spring. We dug up the plant and brought it inside and watched as the caterpillar changed into a chrysalis. We are anxiously awaiting for it to turn into a Monarch Butterfly. My class is positive it is the offspring from one of the monarchs we raised and released last spring!
