Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/27/2001

Number: 1

This afternoon about 5:15 pm arrived at the 'Secret Garden' with a couple of my kids, and low and behold, there was a gorgious FEMALE. She did her circular flight around a couple of acres at approx. 5 to 10 feet off the ground, came up to nectar on the milkwee once, and went back to her circling the grounds.

We started checking the milkweed and took into custody about 60 eggs! I am using the ziplock bag that stands on its own. Some had 3 eggs to a leaf, so I just broke the leaves off and dropped them into the bag. The others I rolled off with my fingers.

I did lots of video clips of the ones I found on Saturday and the others that had hatched out in the bag last week. I am having great fun with these guys.

I hope this female lays some more. We had a low pressure cell arrive just after we reached the garden and it is now pouring with rain. I am hoping this will bring up some more of our friendly travelers.

I am thrilled with all this activity.
