Haven't seen a red-winged blackbird for more than a week now; most of the cowbirds except for some juveniles are gone within the last few days, and there are fewer grackles (although last year three grackles overwintered successfully in my backyard!). Although this means the feeders actually have seed in them for more than 15 minutes, it's sad to see these warm-weather friends leave --- it's a sign of summer's end.
Haven't seen a robin since the lawn went dormant in mid-August, so I don't know if they're gone south or will return when the green grass and food source does; hope they do, at least for awhile, on their way south.
The leaves are beginning to turn and/or fall.
The hummers are eating, eating, eating...bulking up for their long flight!
