Signs of Fall

Date: 09/01/2001

Number: 1

Fall must be coming early this year. My rowdy gang of around 10 hummingbirds gathered to feed heavily in the cleomes Monday, the 26. What a feisty, fercious bunch they were! Tuesday the 27, only a single ruby throat female stopped at the feeder briefly & checked out the scarlet runner beans near the kitchen window. They really enjoyed my window feeders this summer- must be their reflections as they preen & show off!
Today, Saturday the 1st. of September; saw 1 very shy hummer staying low & darting about the flower garden. Had to be traveling, seemed very unfamiliar with the area. Saw 20 bluebirds holding a concert on the electric wires at sunset. They've grouped & overwintered in the gullies in this area for about 4 years now.
