Our class is in the process of raising several caterpillars for a unit on Monarch butterflies. After barely missing the Monarch's exit from its chrysalis, we waited 5 hours before tagging and releasing it from our classroom window. It was a small female in good condition. It was sunny, with a light wind when we released her. We were able to document the whole process with our digital video cassette recorder. We hope to release at least 6 more butterflies before October. The 6 chrysalids look healthy so far. We're very optimistic.
